Back to School Sales Tax Holiday To Be August 6 and 7

Arkansas shoppers can enjoy the state's first sales tax holiday the weekend of August 6 and 7, when retail stores will not charge sales taxes on purchases of school supplies and articles of clothing costing less than $100. Accessories under $50 also will be exempt from the sales tax. Shoes, boots and sandals will also be exempt if they cost less than $100. The sales tax holiday is a result of Act 757, enacted earlier this year by the legislature. although it was labeled a "back to school" tax holiday, it will benefit all consumers who buy clothes and accessories. No sales taxes at all will be collected, neither state nor local sales taxes. that means shoppers will pay what the sticker price indicates for clothing, accessories and school supplies. Clothing that will be exempt from the sales tax includes footware, diapers, wedding apparel, gloves, aprons, hats, neckties and even rubber pants. Exempt accessories include jewelry, cosmetics, briefcases, watches, wigs, hair notions, umbrellas and non-prescription sunglasses. Exempt school supplies include binders, paper, notebooks, markers, pencils, rulers and protractors. it is a long list of items that common sense dictates are needed for school. it also includes art supplies such as paintbrushes, paint, clay and drawing pads. Maps, globes and reference books are included in the items that will be exempt from sales taxes. there is no limit on the number of items a consumer can buy and still benefit from the exemption. for example, you can buy half a dozen shirts for $20 each and not pay sales tax on any of them even though the total is more than $100. however, if you buy a dress for $120 you will have to pay sales taxes on the entire amount of the purchase. Calculators are considered school supplies and will be exempt, but computers and software are not. Sales tax will be collected on computers and periphery equipment. there will be a "back to school" sales tax holiday every year in Arkansas. Act 757 says that it will be on the first weekend of August, which this year falls on Saturday, August 6, and Sunday, August 7. Act 757 was one of a package of tax cuts measures enacted by the legislature in the 2011 regular session. Act 755 reduces the state sales tax on groceries by half a cent. Act 754 lowers the sales tax on utility bills of manufacturing plants. Act 753 makes more used car purchases exempt from the sales tax by raising the exemption level. Previously, used car purchases were exempt from the sales tax if the car cost less than $2,500 and now they are exempt if the used car is sold for less than $4,000. Lottery Scholarships More than 30,000 Academic Challenge Scholarships have been awarded by the state Higher Education Department to students who will attend a four-year university or a two-year college in Arkansas this fall. Money for the scholarships comes from the state lottery. More than 12,000 scholarships went to graduating high school students who will attend college for the first time this fall. More than 18,000 went to college students who received the scholarships and had them renewed because they maintained a 2.5 grade point average and completed 27 hours.

Brown exhibit expanded

1311967080 62 Brown exhibit expanded

AUGUSTA — an expanded version of the James Brown exhibit at the Augusta Museum of History has opened to the public.

Additional artifacts from the late entertainer’s estate are now on display, the Augusta Chronicle reported.

The expanded exhibit opened Thursday.

Items at the museum include clothing worn by Brown, a native of Barnwell, including a red performing outfit that was the last costume worn by him in an Augusta concert.

Red suede boots with rhinestone-studded toes and a brown-and-tan, jewel-studded jumpsuit worn by Brown also can be seen.

“The guy was a clothes and shoes horse. he never threw anything out, and we love people like that,” said Nancy Glaser, the executive director of the museum.

The Grammy Award that Brown won in 1986 for best R&B Vocal Performance for the song “Living in America” also has been added to the exhibit.

Musical instruments such as a bass and acoustic guitar, a drum set and a keyboard are also on display.

The items range from the 1970s to 2006, the year Brown died.

More material, such as jewelry and sunglasses, will be available for public viewing in late August, Glaser said.

Terri Toole of Aiken viewed the exhibit Thursday. “All the bling is so typically him,” she said.

Perry Watch: Rick Perry ditches cowboy boots for orthopedic shoes

1311967065 26 Perry Watch: Rick Perry ditches cowboy boots for orthopedic shoes

Gov. Rick Perry has ditched his trademark cowboy boots for a more comfortable pair of orthopedic-style black tennis shoes with thick soles.

This isn’t a fashion alert — the governor underwent spinal fusion surgery to fix a recurring back ailment earlier this month and is still recuperating, according to the new York Times.

Last Wednesday, reporters at a bill-signing ceremony in Houston noticed that in addition to the new shoes, Perry appeared to be wearing a back brace.

Perry’s aides stressed that the surgery was a minor procedure. Perry had the surgery, which also involved a nerve decompression, on July 1 and went home on July 3 after spending two nights in the hospital.

Spokesman Mark Miner dispelled any rumors that Perry was having trouble recovering from the operation. According to the Miner, the surgery has not affected the governor’s ability to fulfill his obligations.

Last week, the Texan attended several events in Austin, met with business leaders in California and flew to Colorado for a forum with the Republican Governors Association. This week, Perry has been meeting with potential donors in Austin to discuss whether he could raise enough money to win a presidential campaign.

But as Minnesota Rep. Michele Bachmann is well aware, any sign of weakness can be detrimental to a presidential campaign. the Daily Caller last week outed the GOP candidate as a victim of severe migraines and critics subsequently questioned her ability to deal with the debilitating pain.

The back brace is optional, Miner said. “He wears shoes that are comfortable. It’s nothing more than that.”

Farm life gone funky

1311966209 89 Farm life gone funky

A look beyond the turntables, flashing lights and hordes of dancing music lovers, at the family who created Canada’s premier electronic music festival, Shambhala

The Salmo River Ranch is fairly quiet most of the year. there isn’t much noise from the nearby highway, just the sound of the Salmo River, the wind, maybe Rick Bundschuh milling wood or the cows grazing.

Rick and his wife Sue moved from Kelowna to the ranch with their three kids Corrine, James, and Anna.

“Kelowna sucks. we were in the fruit business there and it was just going downhill. it was getting harder to get people to work for you and it was hard to make a living,” said Rick.

He moved to Kelowna when he was six and his father had an orchard.

“I kind of fell into that,” he said.

Both Corrine and her dad joke that the family left Kelowna in search of peace and quiet.

“I know it’s kind of ironic now, we found this pristine piece of land in the middle of nowhere and we go and invite 10,000 people here,” Corrine laughed.

Those people come for what has become the most popular electronic music festival in Canada, Shambhala.

“I was always really involved in arts events. I was really involved in theatre in high school, and my brother was apprenticing to be a cook,” said Corrine.

“We started doing these little shows. we did one called please Charleston Quietly, because the Charleston used to be an illegal dance. So, we were doing these little dinner theatres. Everyone just kept getting really into the idea of these projects.”

James eventually abandoned his apprenticeship and dove into helping to produce more events.

“We wrote a grant and we got a small business loan and we started renting [the property] out to small parties and shows. there was a festival going on in the Kootenays that couldn’t find a location and they came to us and asked if they could rent our farm,” said Corrine.

After the festival left, the Bundschuh kids decided they could do the same thing.

“Jimmy said, ‘We can do this, we have the sound system, we’re well connected with musicians, we have the people. Let’s do a festival.’”

Corrine was hesitant at first about the idea. she describes her brother as the visionary behind the festival, while she and her sister have stepped into management roles helping make their vision a reality.

“I thought it would be way too expensive to do a music festival. I said, ‘if you’re going overnight you’re tripling your budget. It’s not going to work.’ Jimmy had the vision to be like ‘If we do it well we’ll have 10,000 people out here one day.’”

The first year of Shambhala there was a crowd of 400 to 600 made up of mostly locals.

“It started as an incidental thing. They were up to about four parties a year,” said Rick.

He lives on the property with Sue, and Corrine and her husband Josh Zawaduk live in another house with their eight-year-old daughter.

The house Corrine lives in was being built for James, but he was so eager to have her work full time with Shambhala that he offered her his house.

Corrine said it was hard to turn down the offer, and she moved from Vancouver back to the ranch.

“I think we’re luckier than hell to have our kids and grandkids so close. I love it. we can keep an eye on them and make sure they don’t get into trouble,” said Rick.

Even though Rick keeps cows, grows hay and mills wood on the ranch, the festival has become an important part of life on the farm.

“One of the intentions of the festival was to create something where we could all work together and live off our land,” said Corrine.

Sue was involved in the payroll and human relations for the festival, but with Anna now involved in the finances and other fulltime staff stepping in to help with human relations, she has started making Shambhala quilts, which she plans to sell at the festival.

“We even wrangle aunts and uncles into working at the festival. My auntie was just down visiting and she’s one of our food vendors, and my uncle does pizza. My uncle who just died of brain cancer was our truck driver,” said Corrine.

She is one of 12 full time staff that work for Shambhala year round.

“Someone asked my daughter one day if she would want my job, and she said ‘No way, it’s too hard. I want to work with daddy,” said Corrine.

Corrine’s husband Josh is a musician and the stage director for the Rock Pit.

When I visited downtown Shambhala, the festival was “dressed down” as Corrine described it, the tent over the Rock Pit hadn’t been set up yet, and the pit itself where the crowds will dance was full of water, snakes, turtles and frogs.

“My daughter loves it. she loves going to work with daddy,” she said.

“I think it’s great when you can work with your kids. she can come and help out, and she has a lot of fun with it. When I was little my dad would take me out on the tractor in the orchards and I would help with irrigation, and I remember just having such a stellar childhood. It’s nice to be able to do that with our children as well.”

Anna’s son Arthur has also become very involved with Shambhala.

“A lot of the people actually thought that he was on the site team. last year, he was nine-year-old delivering things on his little golf cart,” said Corrine.

One day when the crew was going around explaining what their roles were with the festival, Arthur declared himself  the Prince of Shambhala.

Anna was doing her nursing training when Arthur was born and working part time with the family business.

“A lot of people, especially the creative types, find the finance part really challenging, but Anna makes it fun. When you go and get paid by Anna she’s wearing a feathered wig, a corset, a tutu and big black boots with her motorcycle helmet, ready to go anywhere,” said Corrine.

The success of the festival allowed the family to send Anna to school to help her take on the role of business manager.

But with the success of Shambhala comes a collection of rumours.

“The most common rumour is that it’s always the last year of Shambhala,” said Corrine.

Rick jokingly tells her he’s the one starting that rumour.

Shambhala also became connected to the disappearance of Owen Rooney, an Australian man who walked away from the hospital in Grand Forks after sustaining a brain injury.

Rooney reportedly attended Shambhala before disappearing.

“There’s a couple hidden graves,” Rick chuckles.

Corrine explains the rumour of the hidden graves at Shambhala emerged after a neighbour spoke to a reporter.

“She was going on to the reporter and said that people had died out here. The reporter asked why no one had ever heard about it, and she said ‘Well, they’re burying dead bodies out there.”

The reporter later approached the Shambhala crew and asked whether there was any weight to the story.

“We’re not that smart,” said Corrine. “I can’t imagine doing something like that.”

While the rumours make for entertaining stories, Corrine insists they are nothing more than rumours.

She and her siblings are preparing a five year plan to help them work toward future goals — and plan for the end, if it comes in the next five years.

“People say to me ‘one day you might want to sell this,’ but the thing is we’re all farming kids, and we’re really tied in with the land. I can’t imagine doing anything else.”

What clothing would go with these shoes (ankle boots)?

What clothing would go with these shoes (ankle boots)?

amazon.com/Blowfish-Womens-Pi…

I think they look pretty great on their own but I'm having a hard time visualizing what kind of clothing they would compliment.

Skirts? Skinny jeans? Dresses? Gauchos? etc.

What do you think?

I would wear the outfits below to look super cute. I LOVE these shoes and they're super comfy. any bright colored top with black skinny jeans would look great but I like skirts or dresses so the shoes are highlighted more since they're so-o-o cute. have fun shopping!! : P

I suggest wearing then with dark skinny jeans, or if you are going to wear them with a skirt, dress make sure it's a solid color (preferable a darker color) no pastels;. I doubt these booties will look good with any patterns, so keep it simple..

Leggings & skinny jeans.
And if you wanna add some more to it, a cropped leather jacket and a floral print tank top underneath.
But that's just my opinion. By the way, those boots are really cute,

I'd say a long ankle skirt icon smile What clothing would go with these shoes (ankle boots)?

i'd say leggings, or skinny jeans or jeggings♥

i'd say black leggings and a long top

Need some jeans that will fit over Timberland boots and not bunch up.?

1311966175 16 Need some jeans that will fit over Timberland boots and not bunch up.?

I can never seem to find jeans that will fit over timberland boots or even trainers. They always have an ankle opening that is too narrow to go over the heel/tongue. this makes them sit awkwardly on the top of the boot/trainer. Does anyone know of any brand that will sit right?

go to old navy and in the back is an entire jean section. just look for the jean types that say boot-cut or flare. these types will go over your boots.

General Rating: Fair, GOOD, GreatFlow Info: We have a flow of 2,450 average. for real time data, please visit the USGS web site. We will continue to have these flows until further notice.

waterdata.usgs.gov/ut/nwis/uv?09234500

Hatches: Look for morning, and afternoon midge hatches on the water on the a section. There are crickets and hoppers on the banks these days. We are now seeing some evening caddis hatches, day time PMD, and Yellow Sally’s.

Dry Flies: Great

LOCAL FAVORITES: Little midges and midge clusters including; Para Adams, Griffith’s gnats, Fuzz ball, Para mating midges, Brook Sprouts, hatching midge, micro midge, snowshoe cluster, and Morgan’s Para midges in sizes #22-#26. Green River para cricket, black fat Alberts, and black PMX patterns in size #14-#10. Black ants #18-12. AC Caddis, Ripcord Caddis, Out Rigger Caddis, Elk Hair Caddis #18-14. Yellow Sally fluttering, Out Rigger Sally #16-12.

Nymphs /Emergers: GREAT Nymphing with a tandem rig has been the best producer in the back eddies. Small emergers, midges, Caddis, or swimming Scuds trailed deep behind a large attractor (emergers 18-24) Don’t be afraid to get down and dirty. The fish have adjusted to the flow, and are feeding.

LOCAL FAVORITES: Jig-a glow in yellow or salmon, Neon Nightmares, orange, tan and pink scuds #12-#16, Frenchie patterns, red and wine colored San Juan Worms are also working well as attractor patters. Gray-soft hackles, WD-40′s, micro scuds, small gray RS-2′s #16-20, Barrs BWO #16-18, Little Thing Black #20-22, and Black Beauty #20-24 are effective trailers. Bead head patterns work well in the faster water in the lower a section, or as a dry dropper combo. Copper John’s and Pheasant tails #18-14. Zebra midges in #22-16. Rainbow Warrior #20-22. Black and Olive Biot flies. Barr’s BWO emerger #18-22. And juju Baetis. Streamers: GOODStreamer fishing is fair, our sunny days that we are starting to see have slowed the streamers down. The streamers can really turn on again, but it will take a cloudy day in the forecast to do so. Streamer patterns will take fish on a dead drift as part of a double nymph rig or stripped. Streamers are a good option to try to catch the big one. LOCAL FAVORITES: The Wooly Bugger is still the top producing streamer. Try them in ginger, purple, black, brown, white, tan, and olive. Sculpins are another great pattern to use. Don’t be afraid to try different retrieves, different speeds and techniques. if the fish aren’t being aggressive, try drifting your streamer trailed by a small nymph or an attractor (i.e. baetis, or midge patterns)

Spin Fishing: GOODSpin fishing is always productive. Try casting a jig in faster moving water. Rapalas will lure fish from some of the deeper water.

LOCAL FAVORITES: 1/8 oz. White River Zig Jigs in ginger or olive. Cast them up stream and let them bounce the bottom. F-5, F-7, F-9, CD5, CD7, CD9 Rapalas in rainbow, brown trout, silver or gold. Work the floaters in some of the shallower pools, the divers in the deeper water.

Other Information:

The pressure right now is little heavier. We are seeing some really hot weather these days. most of the water hazards are under water, and it would be pretty hard to hit a rock right now. Our water temps are right around 58-62 degrees coming out of the Dam. This is a really good temperature for the fish to feed at. Our guides are coming in telling us about catching a number of really nice fish. REMEMBER clean, Drain, and Dry all of you fishing equipment. We don’t want any aquatic hitch hikers! if you have rubber soles on your wading boots, it can still take 7-8 days to kill any spores. Don’t forget the sun screen out on the water.

1311965297 39 How do I get rid of windows 7 boot option?

I partitioned my hard drive when the windows 7 beta came out so I could dual boot vista and 7. I didn't like it much so I just formatted the 7 partition, and made the drive into one again. I still have the option to boot into 7 at startup though. How do I get rid of this option so it just boots vista like normal.

PS choosing windows 7 will just give an error, it won't actually boot. the system is totally gone.

Use Easy BCD from Neosoft to adjust the boot order.
